Name movies and TV shows for more accurate metadata matching
A scraper reads titles, years, seasons, and episodes from folder and file names. The best names are simple, consistent, and understandable to both people and software.
Walkthrough
- 1
Keep the title and year for movies
Use a pattern such as Title (Year) for the movie folder or main filename. You can add resolution or edition details afterward, but do not hide the title and year.
- 2
Use explicit season and episode numbers
Use stable patterns such as S01E01 or S02E03, with separate season folders. A name like Episode 1 is more likely to be confused across languages and remakes.
- 3
Keep subtitles beside the video
Place subtitles in the same folder as the video and keep the same base filename whenever possible. Add a language or subtitle-type suffix only after the shared base name.
- 4
Rescan a small sample after renaming
Refresh the changed library and verify a few files first. Do not merge unrelated titles into one folder just to simplify the directory structure.
Before you finish
